Kerman Shahrbabak Carpet in Iran

Kerman Shahrbabak Carpet in Iran

Shahrbabak is one of the old centers of carpet weaving in Kerman province and is bounded on the north by Bafgh, on the east by Rafsanjan and Bardsir, on the west by Yazd province, and on the south by Sirjan. Its altitude is 905 meters above sea level and its latitude is 55 degrees 7 minutes and 30 degrees 6 minutes latitude.
The weaving of this city is often known as Afshar and Shahrbabak carpets are well known. Researchers suggest that carpet weaving in Shahrbabak is due to the weavers or dajjas. Dahaj is a village with a long history of carpet weaving in the north of the city.
It is written that weaving carpets were imported from the southern parts of Arabia by the Arab tribes. This is because there is a similarity between the texture of the area and what is woven in the south in terms of color and texture.
In this area, the carpet weaving is cotton and the carpets are more desirable than the surrounding woven fabrics such as Afshari Sirjan and its fans because it has always been of better quality.
The color of these carpets is often light blue and red, and their texture is soft and firm and weave with both types of symmetrical and asymmetrical knots. In Shahrbabak and Dahaj, carpets are often woven, rarely carpet and sari. By the way, most of the small carpets in Shahrbabak are weaving beds and their size is in feet scale.
