He added: “In most cities of the province, especially Urmia, Khoy, Takab, Miandoab, Buchan, Shahinjad and Mahabad, the carpet weaving industry is widespread, among which the small fish projects of Khoi and Afshar Takab are world famous.”
He pointed to the measures taken to counter counterfeiting the name and role of handmade carpets in West Azerbaijan and to prevent the sale of carpets copying the province’s carpets in world markets and said: In this regard, for the first time in the country Khoi’s fish has been registered at the national level, and in the near future these two carpets will be registered worldwide.
The head of the Industry, Mining and Trade Organization of West Azerbaijan stated: “According to current statistics, 105,000 carpet weavers are employed in the carpet industry of West Azerbaijan with an annual production of more than 424 thousand square meters of carpets, 60 to 80% of which are exported.” .
Babian said that the carpets produced in West Azerbaijan have been able to attract many customers from foreign countries due to their high elegance and high quality. The province is the largest exporter to Europe, the United States, the United Arab Emirates and the Persian Gulf.
Akbari added: “In order to identify the tastes of customers in the target markets, it is also possible to send large producers and exporters of the province to South Africa, Germany, China, Turkey, Dubai, Iraq, Kuwait and Russia.”
Regarding the holding of domestic and foreign exhibitions, he said: “In order to support and introduce the province’s carpets, 70 to 100 percent of subsidies have been paid to producers and exporters who have participated in foreign exhibitions.”
