The biggest buyer of Iranian saffron is not its consumer!
The vice president of the South Khorasan Saffron Association said: Exporting Iranian saffron to countries that do not consume saffron and then smuggling it to other countries has hit the roots of Iranian saffron.
Ali Hosseini, stating that the Rural Cooperative Organization performed better in supporting the purchase of saffron this year than in previous years, said: In this supportive purchase, efforts were made to see real saffron growers and buy their products more and cut off the hands of brokers in the meantime. .
He continued: In previous years, brokers bought saffron flowers at low prices from farmers and sold them to the village cooperative organization at a higher price, but this year this supportive purchase was properly controlled.
The vice president of the South Khorasan Saffron Association stated that during this purchase, 30% of the money for the purchased saffron was to be paid in cash at the beginning of the contract and 70% in other months. Because saffron growers need capital to cover their costs; 30% do not respond to them at the beginning.
Referring to the situation of saffron exports and stating that if it were not for Corona, more exports would have been made, he said: It is important to which countries Iranian saffron is exported. Hong Kong is the first target country for saffron exports to Iran and Afghanistan is the third target country; While none of them are consumers and Iranian saffron is smuggled from these countries to other countries and this issue has hit the roots of Iranian saffron.
