Rice is being harvested in 5% of Rasht paddy fields
The director of Jihad Keshavarzi Rasht said: Rice has reached and is being harvested in only 5% of Rasht paddy fields.
Ali Akbar Mansouri stated: Rasht city is the largest rice-producing city in the country and has 64,000 hectares of paddy fields.
He added: so far rice has reached 5% of Rasht paddy fields.
Mansouri pointed out that the rice harvest has started in the paddy fields of Rasht on July 15 and is accelerating these days, noting that according to meteorological reports, the weather is good for the next few days and Rasht farmers will increase their rice harvest speed.
He added: Mechanized rice harvest will reduce the cost of white rice production and mechanized rice harvest in Rasht is expected to increase this year.
This year, 41,480 hectares of rice, equivalent to 68% of Rasht’s paddy fields, are scheduled to be harvested by machine, and 19,520 hectares, equivalent to another 32, by hand.
87,000 rice farmers in Rasht produce about 166,000 tons of rice annually.
Rasht paddy farmers cultivate mostly native Hashemi and Ali Kazemi rice cultivars and high-yielding Caspian and Shiroodi cultivars.
