More than 60% of Iran’s coriander was produced in Nahavand

Hojjatullah Shahbazi added: This year, 6,400 hectares of agricultural lands in Hamadan province have been planted with coriander.

He stated: 99% of the area under coriander cultivation in this province belongs to Nahavand city and the rest belongs to Tuyserkan and Asadabad cities.

Shahbazi last year mentioned the area of cultivation of this crop in Hamadan province as 2,000 hectares with a production of 4,000 tons and added: in order to encourage farmers, the cultivation of this crop increased this year.

Horticulture director of Hamedan Jihad Agricultural Organization said: Gashnir is one of the low-water and low-cost crops that is cultivated in Nahavand in two ways, spring and autumn.

Shahbazi continued: All stages of cultivation of this product are done mechanized and on average more than 2 tons of coriander is harvested per hectare.

He said: Gashnir production is exported in raw form abroad due to the lack of proper processing machines and factories in the province, and its profit goes to other countries.

Explaining the medicinal properties of coriander, Shahbazi said: The properties of coriander are similar to the properties of cumin and its fruits contain lipids, albumin, tannins, pectin, sugars and vitamin C.

He added: This plant is used in pure form or as an appetizing, wind-breaking and digesting mixture in decoction.

Shahbazi continued: These decoctions also soothe the nervous system and its tail is used to open the voice, treat sore throats and colds, relieve vomiting and treat diabetes or blood sugar.

He mentioned lowering blood cholesterol and relieving joint pains such as rheumatism as other effects of coriander and added: The dried or oil of this plant is used industrially to prepare ointments for relieving muscular or joint rheumatic pains.
