More than 23 species of mint grow in Iran

The director of the Natural Essential Oils Research Institute of Kashan University announced the production of more than three thousand tons of peppermint essential oil in the world.

Abdolrasoul Ebrahimabadi stated in the workshop Essential oil from laboratory to factory in Ghamsar, Kashan: The highest production of essential oil is related to pepper mint which is produced and traded annually for three thousand and 300 tons.

He added: Of this amount, 3,000 tons of peppermint is produced in the United States and the remaining 300 tons in other countries. Pepper mint is cultivated in Iran on an area of 120 hectares, which has no special place, but should be expanded according to the potentials that exist in the country.

The head of the Ghamsar Natural Essential Oils Research Institute continued: The application of pepper mint essential oil is very diverse and a wide range of it is used in pharmacy, cosmetics and rubber and leather industries.

Ebrahimabadi mentioned edible mint as the second and largest producer of high-consumption essential oils and said that edible mint sweat is high for domestic consumption and more economical for farmers in terms of cultivation, adding: edible mint essential oil from World trade has no place.

The director of the Natural Essential Oils Research Institute of Kashan University mentioned the provision of domestic consumption and global vocation as one of the goals of these festivals and said: There are 23 species of mint in Iran, five of which are peppermint, edible, Scottish and two other types that are not grown in Iran. ) Is more consuming than the rest.

Ebrahimabadi added: We hope that in the near future, with the cooperation and empathy of farmers and craftsmen, the shortcomings will be corrected and we will reach the production of quality products in the country.
