Khatam Shiraz needs global branding
Majid Golriz Khatami, in response to a question about the situation of foreign tourists welcoming the purchase of Khatam and the export of this art product abroad, said: Some foreign tourists are lucky to buy Khatam, but the main problem of this market is that tourists do not know Khatam and the lack of branding. This product is a handicraft for Shiraz in the world and unfamiliarity of foreign tourists with it.
Golriz Khatami stated: Khatam belongs to Shiraz and this capacity should be used to the maximum and with the aim of branding Khatam in the world, extensive publicity should be done.
In this regard, the Deputy of Handicrafts and Traditional Arts of the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism of Fars said: The death of Majid Golriz Khatami, one of the pioneers of Shiraz inlay art, is a deplorable loss for the Iranian art community.
In recent years, this master of inlay has been able to work in this field due to less illness, and I hope that his children will follow him after the father of art and pass on the family heritage to the future.
Heidar Ali Zahediannejad added: The valuable treasures that are remembered by him will be the beacon for the students of Khatam School in Shiraz.
Inlaid work, which is a handicraft, involves decorating and stacking objects side by side, mostly small triangles.
In the inlay work, the designs are in the form of geometric shapes whose raw materials are wood, metal and bone.
Various dishes for keeping jewelry as well as picture frames, mirror frames, candlestick decorations are among the uses of inlays.
