Khatam production method
First of all, it is necessary to explain that inlay work, including inlay work on copper, etc., is an art in which the artist’s accuracy and delicacy play the first role, and perhaps a small mistake can ruin the whole result of the work. First, they provide the wood and bones they need. The most important woods used are the following: ebony, fofel, Tabrizi, maple, orange, jujube, beech and walnut.
The bones used are usually camel bones and horse bones.
After preparing the desired wood and bones, they are cut with special tools to the desired length and shape and create triangles with it. Using scraper, they make all the sides that are intended and according to the design.
To make the inlay, the design must first be drawn by the inlaid artist, and the wooden, bony, and metal triangles created by the artist’s art are put together using glue, which is a special type of glue, and glued together. . Then they fasten them with thread. By doing this, the so-called blade is made. After a few hours of this work, the threads are opened and the sides of the design that have been scraped and a number of the blades that are made are put together again and glued together.
In the next step, which is also known as the scroll flower, a very regular hexagon is created, which is also known as the sun. Around each of the hexagons, 6 wires are glued together and fastened with thread, resulting in a star design. These designs are repeated as much as necessary to fit the artist’s intended design, and then pressed and pressed. By making a few steps of cutting and gluing the layers of wood (which is also very thin) around it, the initial design that is needed for inlay is created.
