khatam in the Zandi period
One of the important features of Khatam’s works left over from the Zandi period is the use of pentagons and decimals in the decoration of objects. Although the use of five- and ten-sided forms was also common before this period, Zandieh artists reformed in such a way that Khatamkari’s fame culminated in this method. A major overhaul of how these geometric patterns were used led to the presentation of the best examples of “knot knots” at the time. In other words, the distinctive feature of Khatam in Zandieh’s period should be sought in the evolution and peak of the use of knots.
Among the works of Khatamkari from the Zandieh period should be: the shrine box of the shrine of Hazrat Amir al-Mo’menin Ali (AS) in Najaf Ashraf, and the Khatam box of the shrine of Hazrat Seyyed al-Shuhada (AS) as well as the mirror frame of Khatam in 1124 AH. ق. It was built in Kerman and is now housed in the museum of the late Mohammad Hossein Sanei Khatam (Amin Sanati). Another beautiful work made during this period is the two domes of Khatam in the Museum of Ancient Iran, which were apparently built by order of Karim Khan Zand.
