Hersin’s kilim awaits globalization

Hossein Veisi, Deputy of Handicrafts of Kermanshah Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Department, referring to the activity of 3,000 kilim weavers in Harsin city, said: “This number of artists are working in 80 workshops in the form of home-based jobs and about 6,000 annually.” They have a square meter of kilim production.
He said: “Weavers of Hersin’s kilim create special patterns and paintings inspired by nature on the kilim without having any plans in front of them and only based on mental visualization and illustration.”
Kermanshah Deputy Minister of Handicrafts Babian said that the tradition of weaving kilim weaving has been passed down from generation to generation among many Hersinian families, adding: They are engraved on the kilims.
The official said that the main colors used in Hersin kilim are cream, red, blue, green and crimson.
He referred to the registration of Hersin as the national city of kilim in previous years and said: “Last year, the international geographical mark of Hersin kilim was registered so that this handicraft art named after this region could be introduced in the world.”
Weiss pointed to the capabilities of Hersin’s kilim to record globalization, saying: “Given the antiquity, background and importance of this original art, we are trying to prepare a file for its global registration.”
He continued: “To achieve this goal, we must first perform mechanisms and preparations, such as organizing artists and production workshops, building markets and sales centers, building Germany, and so on.”
The deputy of handicrafts of the province added: we have entrusted some of the relevant plans and measures such as naming the alleys as “kilim” and making urban furniture to the city officials and we are responsible for doing another part, including the construction of handicrafts market. The city pointed to the allocation of 10 billion rials.
He said: “We should try to provide a variety of infrastructure in the field of handicrafts, especially kilims, in Hersin to increase the longevity of tourists who travel to this city.”
