Hamadan Wood Crafts in Iran
Wooden crafts are another art field that is very exquisite and artistic on wood. The production of various types of handicrafts has been widespread in Hamadan province, especially in urban areas such as Hamedan, Malayer, Tuyserkan, Serkan.
Wooden handicrafts include carpentry, carving, inlaid woodwork and woodcarving, which is more prevalent in carpentry in this province, especially woodcarving. It is worth mentioning that in recent years, in-carving in Tweerskan and Malayer Joker has greatly improved.
The word wood carving means wood carving, which has a long history; perhaps the beginning of wood carving history can be traced back to the time when the first human being carved wood with a winning tool. Wood carving has been a tradition in Iran since ancient times, in the inscriptions found in Dariush’s treasury in Persepolis, although we have no credible evidence of the predecessors of this art, as the short life of the wood is due to review. Time is running out, but in our country there are some remnants of relatively old engravings on the tombs of the Imams (pbuh) as well as the pulpits.
Some of these works are 900 to 1,000 years old. The oldest carved in wood, now preserved in India’s Akbarabad Museum, belonged to the Sultan Mahmud Palace in Ghazni. There are several museums in Iranian museums of the fourth and fifth centuries AH, carving these doors in various foliage and inscriptions with Quranic verses.
In Isfahan there are also mosques of the Safavid era whose doors are still intact, such as at the school of King Sultan Hussein, the tomb of Prince Hussein in Qazvin, which is beautifully reminiscent of Shah Tahmasb, one of the most beautiful carvings. Iran is a shrine preserved in the New York Metropolitan Museum and in addition to its Sassanid-style ornamentation, there are twelve names of infallible Imams.
In the present era, inlaid work is still popular and many artists are involved in Iran, especially in Hamadan province.
