Exports of handmade carpets have grown by 32%
Mohammad Shariatmadari, Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade, stated at the 27th International Exhibition of Iranian Handmade Carpets, which was held today, September 23, at the Tehran International Exhibition: “In the first four months of this year, we had 32% growth in carpet exports in all export markets.”
He said: “One of the US sanctions against Iran was the sanctions on Iranian carpets, while carpets do not play a major role in the Iranian economy, and what is of interest to the United States is the social effects of handmade carpets on the social situation in Iran.” Fewer goods are found in any part of Iran that has a production center, so the pressure on this area has adverse social effects on two million Iranian citizens.
Shariatmadari acknowledged: “The High Council of Handmade Carpets has been revived and its first meeting was held last week, while in this council we will try to hear the views of private sector activists in this field.”
The Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade stated: “Lack of attention to handmade carpet manufacturers is less done by policy makers and we ignore the role and creative effect of the design and weaver, while the benefits in this field are not commensurate with the wage of handmade carpet weavers.” However, part of this is the responsibility of the government, which should follow the insurance of carpet weavers, while it should not be treated unfairly and harshly.
Shariatmadari, pointing out that handmade carpets are one of the creative industries in the world today that have a valuable relationship with the environment, added: “The carpet industry has a great impact on sustainable development products, which can be seen in various fields of carpet.”
According to him, the share of carpets in Iranian civilization is novel and is the most important tool for transmitting Iranian culture to the world.
Emphasizing that the National Carpet Center of Iran should pursue the supply of raw materials for the industry, the Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade said: “In the first four months of this year, 32% growth in carpet exports in all export markets and 21% growth due to sanctions.” We are witnessing the American market.
He said that if VAT, which is being set in parliament today, is banned, it would be a nuisance for some industries as a nuisance in the field of production programs, while it should be ordered by the resistance economy and the use of the Coordinating Council. The chiefs of staff were temporarily suspended for some branches and industries in the country, such as textiles and handmade carpets, and I postponed its implementation for about a year.
