Export 80% of Shiraz Iranian handmade carpet products
Mehran Afrasiabi on the sidelines of visiting the Qashqai carpet house in Firoozabad, said: In Shiraz , 167 thousand weavers annually produce more than one million square meters of handwoven carpets.
He added that Firoozabad carpet weaving cooperatives operate as an art center for handmade and Qashqai carpets, adding that there are 50 cooperatives in the city with 3,200 carpet weavers, of which 700 are covered by social security insurance. .
Afrasiabi continued: “Fars province has a great capacity in the field of handmade carpets and strengthening private sector organizations and training specialized forces is the basis for increasing employment, improving production capacity and developing the export of this art.”
He also pointed to the existence of 35,000 home business license holders in Shiraz , and said: “So far, carpet weaving cards have been issued for 120433 people in Shiraz .”
Afrasiabi stated: In 2017, Samat Organization granted facilities to 24 projects worth 240 billion Rials in the form of sustainable rural employment and to 1165 applicants, more than 7 billion Rials in the form of home business facilities.
He announced the number of carpet weavers covered by weavers’ insurance in Shiraz as about 35,000 and added: The largest number of insured in this sector with 7,000 is related to Shiraz city.
Afrasiabi reminded that Shiraz accounted for 15% of the country’s total carpet exports last year, adding: “Last year, Iran exported more than $ 46 million of handmade carpets to China, Pakistan, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Germany, Germany, Australia and the United Kingdom.” It has exported to Indonesia, Italy, Turkey, Greece and other countries.
The head of the handmade carpet department of Fars Province’s Industry, Mining and Trade Organization pointed out the importance of specialized training in carpets and noted: Preserving, reviving and flourishing the art of Shiraz handmade carpets for several thousand years as a lasting cultural heritage of this province Turkish, Lori, Arabic and Tajik are the goals of the Qashqai Carpet House in Firoozabad.
The Qashqai Handmade Carpet House was established in September of last year with the support of the National Carpet Center. Also, Qashqai and Gabbeh Shiraz carpets reached the World Register of World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) at the end of 2016. Firoozabad is 90 km south of Shiraz.
