Beginning of saffron harvest from Kodkan farms
Abbas Abbasian, head of Kodkan Agricultural Jihad Center, said: The average age of saffron farms in this city in 1398 was four years, but it is not possible to determine the number of saffron farmers, because this year is floating due to economic and geographical problems
He added: Last year, about a thousand people from Kodkan devoted their lands to saffron cultivation, of which 750 worked as small owners and about 250 as total owners.
The head of Kodkan Agricultural Jihad Center continued: Paying attention to climatic conditions and the history of saffron cultivation, nutrition, irrigation, weed control and disinfection of coriander are some of the factors that increase the yield of this product.
Abbasian stated: Last year, about 7,000 kilograms of dried stigmas were produced in Kodkan, but the significant decrease in saffron prices in 1398 caused the farmers of this region to refrain from developing the area under cultivation of this product, because they believe that the profit from the sale of saffron Low prices only cover the high costs of saffron harvesting, including irrigation and manpower.
