Beginning of saffron harvest from Kiar city farms
Saeed Davoodinia, director of Kiar Agricultural Jihad, announced the beginning of harvesting saffron flowers from 18 hectares of fertile farms in the city.
He added: The average production yield of farmers in this city is four to six kilograms of dry saffron per hectare and it is estimated that more than 100 kilograms of saffron flowers will be produced and marketed in this city this year.
Davoodinia added: The economic efficiency of saffron flowering yield started from the second year of onion cultivation and continues for five to seven consecutive years and it is predicted that the cultivation of this crop in Kiar city will increase to 50 hectares by the end of the 1400 crop year.
He continued: Saffron is used in food, confectionery, pharmaceutical and other industries due to its special taste, smell and color.
Davoodinia stated that the harvest of this product is done by skilled workers because the slowness or defect in doing so damages the quality of the product. Families are unique.
In the end, he said: Unfortunately, due to the lack of complementary industries and packaging, this product is not sold at the real price in the market and is mainly marketed in raw bulk or under the brand of Khorasan Razavi province.
