All about the principles of kilim maintenance

Maintaining and cleaning kilims is an important issue, and if not done properly, it may lose a lot of quality and color after washing. For example, it may become lighter in color or may interfere with color. Therefore, it is better to use the following methods to clean and wash it:

Stages of washing and keeping kilim
1- In the first stage, it is dusty: before you start washing the kilim, dust it or bury it. Dusting used to be done with wood and outside the house, but now you can do it with a vacuum cleaner. Of course, if you are going to do this with a vacuum cleaner, use its medium speed so that there is no problem with the warp and weft and their order in the kilim.
Under no circumstances should you hit it on the ground, as this will damage the substrate. To vacuum these handicrafts, do this in the direction of sleep, and if you use a series of vacuum cleaners and do not pull the vacuum cleaner brush on the kilim, it is better.
2- To clean this art, mix Iranian hand with carpet shampoo after dusting a measure of carpet shampoo with water and then apply this mixture on the kilim with a sponge, but do it slowly.

3- The next point in kilim cleaning is that using empty water to clean them is wrong and spoils it. In fact, the water quickly goes to the roots and keeps them moist, and after a while it will cause the fabric to rot.
4- After cleaning this underlay with carpet shampoo, do not walk on it for half an hour so as not to damage the warp and weft.

5- The next thing you need to do is to draw a rough handkerchief on it after cleaning this type of underlay, it is also good to use a curtain net.
6- In the end, the kilim should not be exposed to sunlight for a long time, and giving it to the carpet cleaner is not the right thing to do, and it may be ruined. It is better to clean such handicrafts at home and by hand.
