Regarding the current situation of the country’s hand-woven carpet exports, he said: “The current situation of the country’s hand-woven carpets is not good and is going downhill.”
Akbari said: “In order to maintain the carpet industry, cross-sectional support cannot be enjoyed. In this regard, principled support is needed and it should not be forgotten that the results of this support will not be known in a day or two.”
He added: “Years ago, carpet exports were at the top of the country’s exports. In this regard, a specialized working group can help the carpet industry a lot.”
The expert said that the policy of the Cultural Heritage Organization could have better results in support of this industry.
Regarding customer tastes, Akbari said: “We have remained in our traditional lacquer in the field of map design and we do not produce carpets according to the customer’s taste.”
He continued: “This issue has hit the country’s carpet export markets in the long run, leading to the loss of a large part of exports.”
Referring to the lack of quality raw materials in the production of handmade carpets, the expert said that the high prices and frauds in the market of raw materials are the main reason for the decline in the quality of Iranian handmade carpets and said: Loss of the country’s hand-woven carpet export market.
Emphasizing the government’s support for the country’s carpet traders, Akbari said: “The government should help marketing and export by using producers who participate in exhibitions as sponsors.”
He concluded by criticizing the government’s four-year policy: The handmade carpet industry should be recognized as a national industry, and a policy should be pursued for at least 20 years to strengthen its production and export situation.
