$ 20 million export of handmade carpets from West Azerbaijan
Gholam Reza Babaei, referring to carpet weaving from West Azerbaijan, said: “Due to the uncertainty of the producing province in the registration of carpet export shipments in customs, accurate statistics on the export of carpets produced in the province can not be provided.”
He added: “By comparing the amount of carpet production and purchase in domestic markets, about $ 20 million of handmade carpets from Azerbaijan and Western products are sent to foreign markets annually.”
Referring to the production of hand-woven carpets in West Azerbaijan, the official acknowledged: “Although there are no accurate statistics in this regard, but currently about 290 thousand square meters of hand-woven carpets are produced in the province, which due to its inherent nature is a perfect example of the economy.” It is a resistance and as an exquisite and valuable Iranian commodity, it can play an effective role in achieving the goals of the resistance economy.
The head of the West Azerbaijan Industry, Mining and Trade Organization stated: According to estimates, more than 70,000 carpet weavers are working in 226 large and small workshops.
Referring to the number of insured carpet weavers in the province, he said: “In order to improve the status, support and support of carpet manufacturers, about 12 thousand and 800 handmade carpet weavers have benefited from carpet weaving insurance covered by the Social Security Organization.”
Referring to the problems facing the carpet weavers, Babaei continued: “The lack of funds for subsidies allocated to the carpet weavers’ insurance sector is one of the problems facing this industry in the province, which is also due to government budget constraints.”
He added: “Acceptance of new carpet weavers’ insurance has been stopped since October 2014, but with the follow-up of this organization, facilities have been provided for carpet weavers left from carpet weaving insurance to benefit from the services of the Social Insurance Fund for Farmers, Villagers and Nomads.” They have benefited from the insurance services of the said fund.
Referring to the major exporting countries of the province’s carpet production, he noted: The export destination of Afshar Takab carpets is European countries, especially Germany, and in addition, Afshar Takab carpets are exported to the United States, Canada and Japan.
The official said that silk carpets and silk flowers are exported to Arab countries, adding that the main export countries are Khoi, Russia, Japan and European small fish carpets.
