Joshqan handmade carpets
Joshqan carpet is woven in a city in central Iran called Joshqan. Joshaghan is located ten kilometers from Qom to Isfahan, almost one hundred kilometers north of Isfahan. This small town was one of the important centers of carpet weaving in Iran for centuries due to its location on the route between Isfahan and Kashan, until it was replaced by Tehran. The carpet of Joshqan carpet is woven with woolen thread and Persian knot on the cotton weave. Joshqan handmade carpets are expensive due to their high quality and limited production, and buying them is a valuable investment. Some high-quality Joshqan carpets are sold under the names of nearby villages and towns, such as Maymeh. The design of handmade carpets is usually made of medium rhombus bergamot and geometric floral motifs. The main color is usually red or dark blue, and the borders and patterns are woven with brighter colors.
Joshqan carpet is easily distinguished from other Iranian handmade carpets, because Indian carpet weavers rarely copy the design of Joshqan carpet and also the design and color of Joshqan carpet is not very diverse.
