10,000 tons of coriander are harvested from Nahavand farms

Director of Nahavand Agricultural Jihad stated: This year, 4,600 hectares of fertile lands of Nahavand farmers are allocated for planting edible and medicinal plants of autumn and spring coriander, which shows an increase of nearly 100 hectares under cultivation compared to the same period last year.

He said: the reason for the increase of 100 hectares of coriander cultivation in Nahavand is the demand for export of nearly 5,000 tons abroad and also the profitability and low water content of this product compared to water-rich products such as summer crops, which according to the policies of the Ministry of Jihad Agriculture is about directing farmers to plant low-yielding and profitable Nahavand coriander production this year is close to 10,000 tons.

Bagheri said: This year, due to the good autumn and spring rains, it is predicted that between 2200 and 3100 kg of crop will be produced per hectare, which is close to 70% of the country’s coriander production and 98% of the province.

The director of Nahavand Agricultural Jihad said: The experts of the agriculture department of this department held training and explanation classes on how to save groundwater and drought during the winter, and advised them to plant profitable and low-water crops such as coriander and rapeseed.

He said: In recent years, an average of 5,000 to 7,000 tons of coriander has been produced in Nahavand, which unfortunately, the highest profit from the sale of this product is made by intermediaries and foreign countries. If a processing plant is built by the private sector, the sale of raw materials will be prevented and more jobs and profits will be created for Nahavandi farmers.

Bagheri said: Nahavandi farmers provide more than 90% of the coriander seeds in the country, and the produced seeds are given to other farmers in different parts of the country.

The director of Nahavand Agricultural Jihad added: The most important exporters of coriander in Iran are Nahavand residents who alone export more than 5,000 tons of this product worth about 3 to 4 dollars per kilo of Robin to the Persian Gulf countries and Europe, which are among the main applicants in Pakistan, Qatar, Germany and several other countries.

He stated: At present, the price of each kilo of dried coriander seeds is close to 4,000 Tomans, and this product is used as a vegetable, as a spice for preparing coriander, and in industry in the fields of perfume production, chemicals, health, cosmetics, and food. Used in production and chocolate making.

Bagheri said: More than 4,000 people were working in the field of planting and harvesting this crop in Nahavand city and it has millions of dollars in foreign exchange for the country.
